3 tips to help ensure smooth delivery of your order . . .
We ship hundreds of orders every week and almost all arrive safely and on time but occasionally there's a problem. We want to help you avoid delays and additional re-delivery costs, so this is our best advice . . .
- at checkout, specify a different Shipping Address where someone will definitely be able to accept delivery - eg your work, a neighbour etc.
- or add special instructions at checkout - eg "if out, leave at no 20" etc.
- watch out for the automated email to say "your order status has changed to shipped". For UK mainland customers, you can expect your order to be delivered the following day. We appreciate not so easy to estimate delivery for non-mainland customers, but at least you know the order is on its way.
The carriers will leave a card if they attempt delivery and no-one is home. You can phone the number on the card to arrange re-delivery for a date that suits. The will attempt delivery up to 3 times and then they will return the order to us - at that point we are charged to have it re-sent: a charge we must ask you to cover. Obviously we want to help you avoid the delay and the expense plus (to be honest) we want to avoid the additional work re-sending the same orders, as we really are busy enough thanks! ;o)

INTERRUPTIONS TO SITE . . . occasionally you may find the site "sleeping". The truth is we're now so busy that we're working flat out (7 days a week) to ship orders on time but we have key staff on maternity leave so no matter how many hours we put in, there comes a point where we simply cannot process any more orders that day. Obviously we don't like the site being down for even 5 minutes, but once every week or two we may have to close for a few hours just to allow a tiny bit of breathing space.
Please bear with us - after the Summer Holidays we'll be getting back to normal . . . whatever "normal" is !?!?!?! :o)

SUMMER HOLIDAYS . . .
advance warning for all our regular customers . . . this year everyone is taking their Summer holidays at the same time, during the traditional "Glasgow Fair" fortnight so it means a complete shut down. We will be closed from Thursday 12th July and will re-open on Monday 30th July.
To ensure all orders are shipped before we close, we strongly advise "last orders" around Monday 9th July.
PLEASE bear these dates in mind when placing orders in July. It's a good opportunity to plan ahead and place a larger order to see you through - taking advantage of the free delivery codes.

THE BRIDGE WE BUILT WITH CAKES (2011 charity project) . . .
OK, so maybe not literally built "with cakes", but we're delighted to have supported the work of Scottish charity The Raven Trust during 2011 as the built a new bridge for the people of the Chibalazi community in Malawi.
The picture shows the new bridge being officially opened (November 2011). This new bridge ensures families have access to hospitals, clinics, schools and markets . . . this will change (and save) the lives of many, many people. Thank you so much for your support . . . who knew making cakes would save lives?

EVEREST BASE CAMP . . . (2012 charity project)
Building on the success of last year, this year's charity project is a little closer to home in that we're supporting two of our own team as they train to reach Mount Everest Base Camp.
Cameron (16) and his Grandad Willie (age undisclosed!) are off to Nepal in October for 17 days' trekking through the foothills of the Himalaya to reach Everest Base Camp at a lung-busting 17,500 feet above sea level.
The money raised from their sponsorship goes to Who Cares? Scotland, a worthy organisation offering advice, advocacy, support and (crucially) a voice to children and young people in care. All profits from the expedition organisers go to Community Action Nepal, who now have over 50 projects operating in Nepal to help sherpas, their families and communities with new clinics, schools, clean water, improved sanitation and so on.

P&P starts from only £1.95 but for orders between 1kg and 20kg, "Best Rate Shipping" is only £6.95 and FREE on orders worth over £75 (UK mainland up to 20kg).
This £6.95 rate applies no matter how many boxes we send your order in, so we can pack fragile items separately from heavy items like sugarpaste, helping to ensure everything arrives in great condition. For non-mainland and non-UK orders, heavier orders and "Express Shipping" orders, the site will automatically calculate the shipping costs based on order weight and your destination.

We have a GALLERY of customers’ cakes so please email a photo of the cake you’re working on . . . don’t worry if it's not a work of art or doesn't quite match up to the genius of this cake, which was created (constructed!) for H.M. the Queen when as Princess Elizabeth, she married Lt. Philip Mountbatten R.N. in 1947 (we have a few photos of various royal wedding cakes on the site).
